Drawbots

Drawbot and Brushbot Lessons and Directions
Available Soon

Grades: Kinder-5th
Objective: Students will their creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, communication, science, math, and ELA skills to design, build, and test a brushbot and drawbot.
Time: This can take 2-5 days depending on how in depth you go.  Modify for grade level and time accordingly.
What’s inside:
You will find almost everything you need inside this crate.  All bins are labeled so hopefully there aren’t any questions.  Things NOT included are: scissors, paper for drawbots, and things needed to “build” a racetrack for the brushbot.  This will make more sense once you read below.
Lastly: Please put everything back the way you found it for the next person.  The cups and tape are disposable, but everything else will be needed for the next group.  I have labeled and numbered everything so please make sure it’s all there before you get started, and that it’s put back for the next person.
Oh and Lastly Lastly: HAVE FUN!!

Before the building begins:

Engage:
-What is a robot?  Facilitate discussion about the definition of the word robot.  Collect key words on the board for later reference. After you have collected words to describe a robot, explain that there are many types of robots.  In general, science agrees that robots are man-made objects that can automatically perform a task to help humans.

Explore:
Materials needed: Circuit balls.  Inside the crate you will find 6.
-One part of robots is using electrical energy.  This activity will help students understand the concept of a circuit.  Form a circle by holding hands.  (I like to start with a small circle of two, then three, etc.) Close the circuit by touching one contact point while having someone else touch the other metal contact
